
The Uganda Police have officially refuted claims circulating on social media alleging security breaches during the recent CHAN 2024 football match between South Africa and Uganda.
The statement addresses a video in which two individuals falsely claimed that fans experienced multiple security breaches, including the loss of personal belongings such as mobile phones, and that some even sustained physical injuries.
Uganda Police described these allegations as baseless, reckless, and misleading, emphasizing that robust security measures were in place throughout the event.
“Security agencies had robust measures in place to protect fans during the games, at stadium exits, and along the routes leaving the venue. These claims should be dismissed as alarmist propaganda,” the statement read.
Authorities confirmed that no incidents matching the descriptions made in the video were reported, urging the public to disregard the unverified content.

The match ended in a dramatic 3–3 draw, with Uganda coming from behind to level the score after being 3–1 down. This result secured Uganda’s top position in Group C with 7 points.
The Uganda Cranes’ qualification for the quarterfinals marks a historic achievement, as it’s the first time the team has advanced this far in the CHAN tournament. They are set to face Senegal in the quarterfinals at Mandela National Stadium on Saturday, 23rd August 2025.
