With the CHAN 2024 tournament now entering its knockout phase, the Uganda Local Organizing Committee (LOC) has called on fans to maintain discipline and ensure a safe and enjoyable environment at all venues, particularly Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba, the LOC Chair of Communications and Signage Subcommittee, emphasized CAF’s directive that fans displaying aggressive behavior or under the influence of intoxicating substances such as alcohol will not be permitted entry into the stadium or fan parks, even if they hold valid tickets. The policy is designed to protect other spectators, officials, and players, ensuring that football remains a celebration rather than a source of conflict.

“Football is about unity, joy, and passion. It is not a platform for violence or misconduct,” Dr. Mugimba reminded, adding that, “We urge fans to respect one another, cooperate with security officials, and remember that the image of our nation is on display.”

The call comes after widespread praise for Uganda’s security services, led by the Uganda Police Force, whose operations have been credited with creating a safe environment for both local and visiting fans. CAF and LOC officials have repeatedly commended Uganda for prioritizing the safety of players, officials, and spectators, noting that security has been a cornerstone of the tournament’s success so far.

To maintain this standard, the LOC has advised fans to arrive early for Saturday’s quarterfinal clash between Uganda and Senegal, avoid carrying prohibited items, and strictly follow the instructions of stewards and security personnel. Fans are also encouraged to purchase tickets directly through official online platforms to avoid issues at stadium gates.

Anticipation Builds as Uganda Cranes Face Senegal in Quarterfinal

Uganda’s footballing spirit is at fever pitch as the nation looks forward to Saturday’s quarterfinal showdown between the Uganda Cranes and Senegal’s Lions of Teranga at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Following Monday night’s dramatic contest against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, which left 34,000 fans on their feet and millions more glued to television and radio, the Cranes have captured the imagination of the entire country.

The Cranes now turn their attention to Senegal, one of Africa’s football giants, in a match that will determine who progresses to the semifinals. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. on Saturday, 23rd August, with CAF and the LOC expecting an early ticket sell-out due to overwhelming demand.

With Uganda hosting just one quarterfinal fixture, the stakes are even higher. Beyond the match itself, the fixture represents national pride and East African unity, as fans across the region rally behind the Cranes.

As anticipation builds, Uganda finds itself on the cusp of a historic milestone. A victory against Senegal would not only propel the Cranes into the semifinals but also etch another unforgettable chapter in the country’s football history.
