The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has introduced tighter controls on ticket sales ahead of Saturday’s highly anticipated quarterfinal clash between Uganda and Senegal at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

In a move aimed at curbing black market practices and ensuring fair access for fans, CAF has limited the number of tickets any one person can purchase at a time to a maximum of three.

Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba, the Chair of the LOC Communications and Signage Subcommittee, while addressing the Press at Uganda Media Centre today, stated that this change is intended to prevent individuals from buying large quantities of genuine online tickets and reselling them at inflated prices, which has been a growing concern during the group stages of the CHAN 2024 tournament.

“All tickets for CHAN 2024 are strictly sold online. CAF has not printed or issued any physical tickets since the tournament began,” Dr. Mugimba emphasized.

He added, “Fans should be aware that anyone attempting to sell physical tickets is likely peddling counterfeits.”

The Committee also issued a stern warning against the purchase of electronic tickets from third parties. While such tickets may appear genuine, there is a high risk of duplication, as unscrupulous sellers often distribute the same ticket to multiple buyers. Holders of duplicate or fake tickets will be denied entry at the stadium gates and advised to return home.

Ticket sales for the Uganda vs Senegal encounter officially begin this Wednesday, 20th August at 9 a.m. The LOC has encouraged fans to secure their tickets early to avoid last-minute disappointment, noting the likelihood of a sell-out crowd given Uganda’s electrifying performance against South Africa on Monday.

With the new ticketing rules in place, CAF and the LOC are confident that more fans will have equal opportunities to attend Saturday’s historic fixture.

“This tournament belongs to everyone, and fairness in ticket distribution is key to maintaining the spirit of the game,” Dr. Mugimba concluded.
