The Uganda Cranes reignited their CHAN 2024 campaign in style, defeating Guinea 3–0 in an emphatic performance at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
The win comes as a strong response to Uganda’s opening-day setback against Algeria, where they fell 3–0. Playing in front of a vibrant home crowd, the Cranes showed determination, discipline, and attacking flair, earning their first three points in Group C.
The evening began with the singing of the National Anthem, a moment that saw thousands of fans, alongside government officials and football leaders, rise in unison. Among the dignitaries present were the former Vice President H.E. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, the Government Chief Whip, Hon. Hamson Obua, FUFA President Hon. Moses Hassim Magogo, members of Parliament including Hon. Nakiwala Kiyingi, among others. Their presence, together with the passionate supporters, created an atmosphere charged with hope and pride.

Uganda took control early in the match, pressing high and capitalizing on their chances. The home side’s energy and cohesion paid off with well-taken goals that secured a convincing win, keeping their qualification hopes alive.
Earlier in the day, South Africa and Algeria played to a 1–1 draw in the other Group C fixture, leaving the group wide open as the competition heats up.
With this result, Uganda now looks ahead to their crucial clash against Niger as South Africa takes on Guinea on Monday, 11th August 2025, at Mandela National Stadium. A win in that game would place the Cranes in a strong position to progress to the knockout stages.
For the fans, the 3–0 victory was more than just three points—it was a reminder of the spirit and resilience of Ugandan football.
