The Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC), Ms. Veronica Mueni Nduva, has reaffirmed the regional bloc’s strong commitment to supporting seamless movement across CHAN 2024 host nations, emphasizing the vital role of sports in promoting integration and unity among East African countries.

Speaking during the official launch of the Uganda CHAN 2024 tournament, Ms. Nduva expressed her deepest appreciation to the President of Uganda, the First Lady, and the Minister of Education for their warm invitation and continued support. She applauded Uganda’s steadfast commitment not only to regional integration but also to championing sports as a unifying force in East Africa.

“This collaboration among EAC partner states is a testament to our collective resolve in advancing togetherness—not just in sports, but in infrastructure and broader regional development,” Ms. Nduva stated.

She highlighted the multifaceted impact of hosting the African Nations Championship (CHAN), noting that its benefits will extend well beyond the stadium. “Tourism, hospitality, transport, and media will all feel the ripple effects of this historic tournament,” she remarked.

With over 65% of the EAC population under the age of 30, Ms. Nduva underscored the tournament’s potential to positively influence the region’s youth. “This championship represents an opportunity to engage our young people, to inspire them, and to showcase the power of regional unity through sport,” she said.

A key pillar of her address was the EAC’s pledge to facilitate smooth transport and free movement across CHAN 2024 host nations. “On behalf of the East African Community, I reiterate our commitment to supporting transport coordination and easing cross-border movement throughout the tournament. This is central to our vision of a connected and integrated East Africa,” she affirmed.

Ms. Nduva also commended Uganda’s President for his visionary leadership in spearheading the CHAN 2024 initiative and bringing it to fruition. She concluded her remarks by offering best wishes to the Uganda Cranes as they prepare to face Algeria on August 4, 2025.

“As we officially launch Uganda CHAN 2024 today, let this tournament serve as a reminder that our strength lies not just in individuals, but in our unity as a regional body,” she said.
