Niger’s national football team is getting ready for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), hoping to perform better after some impressive results in past tournaments.
Niger first played in CHAN in 2011 when the competition was held in Sudan. They were in a tough group with South Africa, Ghana and Zimbabwe. But they surprised many people by reaching the quarterfinals in their first try. They lost to the host nation Sudan but showed great potential.
Their best performance came in the 2022 edition of CHAN (played in early 2023). That year, Niger beat Ghana in the quarterfinals to reach the semifinals. However, they were stopped by a strong Algeria team who won 5–0.
Even though the loss was tough, Niger was praised for playing with good discipline and fighting spirit. Reaching the semifinals again showed that the team is improving and can compete with the best.
As they prepare for CHAN 2025, Niger hopes to go even further. With talented local players and lessons learned from past games. The Menas believe they can make history this time.
