The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 has provided detailed clarification on accommodation arrangements for the Uganda Cranes and other national teams hosted in Uganda.

Addressing the press at Uganda Media Centre on Wednesday 14th August 2025, Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba, Chairperson of the LOC Communications and Signage Sub-Committee, emphasised that all hotel expenses for the national teams in Group C — Uganda, Guinea, Algeria, Niger, and South Africa — are covered by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), using part of the US$13 million hosting fee paid by the Government of Uganda.

“The government of the Republic of Uganda, as one of the host nations for CHAN 2024, is responsible for meeting the hotel accommodation expenses for the teams we host. This is fulfilled as part of the US$13 million fee we paid to CAF,” Dr. Mugimba said.

He further explained that CAF is responsible for assessing, approving, and entering contracts with the hotels accommodating national teams. For the Uganda Cranes, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) identified and proposed the hotel to CAF, with the final arrangements handled directly between FUFA and CAF.

Dr. Mugimba stressed that there is no preferential treatment for the Uganda Cranes or any of the visiting teams.

“Irrespective of where the choice of accommodation is made, the Government guarantees and meets the expenses associated with services such as team security, transport, and related support while the team is participating in the tournament,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mugimba praised the quality of hybrid turf pitches at the Namboole Main Stadium, the Namboole Annex training ground, and the Kyambogo football ground.

“These venues have received high praise from CAF officials and visiting teams. The hybrid pitches; a mix of natural grass and synthetic fibres, are strong and resilient, able to withstand the wear and tear of multiple matches in a short period,” he noted.

He also acknowledged the professional teams responsible for routine pitch maintenance, ensuring that all venues remain in top condition throughout the tournament.

The LOC’s clarification comes amid public discussion and media attention regarding where national teams are staying and the costs associated with their accommodation, highlighting the committee’s commitment to transparency and fairness for all participating teams.
