With more families bringing children to witness the excitement of CHAN 2024 at Namboole Stadium, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) has has today, Sunday 10th August, 2025, issued detailed safety recommendations to protect young fans throughout the tournament.
Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba, Chairperson of the Communications and Signage Sub-Committee, while addressing the Press at Uganda Media Centre, stressed the critical role of guardians in ensuring children’s safety and comfort during live matches.
“Safety starts with you, the individual, especially when attending with children,” Dr. Mugimba said.
“Parents and guardians should ensure children stay close, use ear protection to guard against the intense noise, and know where the emergency exits and meeting points are.”
The LOC has advised families to select seating in quieter parts of the stadium and equip children with earplugs or headphones to prevent hearing damage from the high decibel levels generated by enthusiastic crowds. Dressing children warmly for night matches and ensuring they are never left unattended are also emphasized.
Other important guidelines include: avoiding letting children accept food or drinks from strangers, familiarizing them with stadium security personnel they can approach for help, and providing children with emergency contact information on a slip of paper kept in their pockets.

According to Dr. Mugimba, the LOC also recommends that guardians identify distinct landmarks inside the stadium as meeting points and clearly explain exit routes in case of emergencies. Accompanying children to restrooms and keeping them within sight at all times are critical for their safety and peace of mind.
“Families are encouraged to avoid exiting immediately after the match to prevent overcrowding and potential separation. Instead, waiting for the crowd to thin out ensures a safer departure,” said Dr. Mugimba.
By taking these precautions, parents and guardians can ensure children enjoy the unforgettable experience of live football while staying safe and comfortable.
The LOC’s commitment to child safety highlights its broader goal of making CHAN 2024 an inclusive event where fans of all ages can celebrate the beautiful game.
